Detection of Infrared Leaks Water leaks are located using infrared cameras in infrared leak detection. Like with other technologies, accurate and trustworthy information can only be obtained by skilled and knowledgeable users. Thermography is a technique that infrared cameras employ to find variations in surface heat. Compared to the human eye, the detector lens inside the camera can observe a much wider range of light frequencies. These minute temperature variations will be captured by the camera and displayed on a screen in a colour scheme that is visible to the human eye. While infrared cannot see through or behind objects like an X-ray equipment can, it can detect changes in heat.
